Candidates will have the opportunity to work on highly technical topics related to some of Apple's latest products in power technology. In particular, the role includes participation in the design, simulation, testing and analysis of current and future wireless power products. The role requires broad knowledge of finite element analysis (FEA) modeling (using commercial tools) of the magnetic field. The candidate should have basic knowledge of the physics of magnetic materials, Maxwell's equations, and finite element analysis. This is a unique opportunity in designing inductive power links with mass production intent. Candidates with a creative attitude and who are eager to undertake new challenges will find this role especially fulfilling.Responsibilities:Drive new techniques in simulation and measurement for improved efficiency and accuracyElectromagnetic analysis of various geometrical structures (FEA)Aid in risk assessments and co-existence analysisRigorously document designs and key parametersUse of analytic tools (such as Excel, Mathcad, Matlab) for basic sizing, weight, system performanceUse of specialized thermal simulation softwareAnalysis and verification of designs with Finite Element Analysis (e.g. COMSOL Multiphysics)Work with cross-functional team such as electrical engineers, mechanical designers and material scientistsExperimental validation of designs via measurement of key parameters and correlation to simulation and analytic predictionsParticipate in material selection through experimental/theoretical investigations, working with external vendors, and other cross-functional teams to find optimized solutionsPreferred QualificationsFamiliarity with common lab equipment and measurement techniques including network analyzers, LCR meter, power supply/amplifiers, oscilloscopes, etc.Experience in creating mathematical, computational, and numerical models for reduced order and more complex thermal analysisFamiliarity with statistical analysis of design perturbationsExperience with transformer theory and modelingUnderstanding of physics of magnetic materialsWorking knowledge in heat transferM.S. + 10 yrs experience or Ph.D. (preferred) in material science or power electronics (ECE) program, or related area (e.g. engineering physics)Minimum QualificationsBackground in electromagnetics and a sound facility with Maxwell's equationsExperience with COMSOL and/or Maxwell FEA simulation toolsFamiliarity in creating multi-physics models to help predict electrical performance as it relates to wireless chargingBS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experiencePay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $324,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
